Nashville

Hola World,

I wanted to give you guys a quick update on this past weekend! I attended a worship conference at Fellowship Bible Church in Nashville, TN called “Inspire Worship”. It was so amazing and informative.  I would encourage every worship leader to go to this conference if they can. I learned so much and  was encouraged by the teachers and the other leaders.  It was an INCREDIBLE  experience!!

Some of you know that I have been taking songwriting classes in Nashville every month and setting up co-writing sessions. Well, when I was in Nashville, after the conference, I met up with my friends Zelda and Pal from Hillsong Australia and we wrote a really cool song called “Moving to the Beat”. The only  thing we have left to do is to write a rockin’ bridge and put the finishing melodic touches on it! I am going into the studio to begin recording an EP this month and I’m hoping that “Moving To The Beat” will be on it :)

Also big news!!! I will be playing in the Atlanta Fest Talent Search in June!!!

What have you been up to? I would love to hear what’s going on in your life.

Love,

Hailey xoxo Zeph 3:17

Old Rugged Cross

Here it is my cover of “Old Rugged Cross”. Hope you like it let me know what you think!!!

Thank You!

As we celebrate Jesus’s death and resurrection this week I urge you to meditate on what He has done for you. Don’t get distracted by whats going on in this world. Really focus on what He did. I have been reading through the Old Testament and I realize that if the law from that day was still what was required to worship God I would fail miserably. I could never live up to the level of “perfect” that was required. I am so thankful that God sent His only Son for me and for the rest of this world!

I am going to work on making this act of thankfulness for His sacrifice a daily and not just once a year thing.

1 John 2:2 “And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”

Thank you Jesus for saving me!

Painting With Words!

On Tuesday I had the chance to attend a Jason Blume songwriting workshop class in Nashville.  It was a fantastic experience!  This months theme was “Song Rodeo”.  During the “Song Rodeo” Jason would pick a name out of a hat and if he picked you, he would play your song for the whole group while giving it an honest critique.  The whole purpose was to not get knocked off the “Song Bull”.  Although I did not have a song played, I learned a lot from watching and listening to him critique other people’s songs.  I think I probably took the most notes out of everyone in the class, but there was just so much to absorb that I didn’t want to forget a single tiny detail.

At the end of this particular class there was a publisher pitch.  I didn’t expect him to be interested in my song because I’m a newer songwriter.  Although he did not take my song, he did tell me that I had a good start and to keep working hard on it.  He was very encouraging and offered a lot of wisdom about the business of songwriting.

After the class, I went and talked to Jason about how to improve in songwriting.  Basically, he told me that I need to paint word pictures and make people see what I see.  So that’s what I have been working on this week.  I’ve been really working on the song that I pitched and I have now found that my ending could go two ways. I don’t know where I’m going to go with it yet, but hopefully I can figure it out soon so I can keep working to make it  solid.

If you would have asked me if painting a picture through words in a song was easy, I would have probably said, “Yes.”  And if you would have asked me if I effectively paint a picture through my songs I would have said, “Yeah, I guess.” Boy was I wrong.  I got Jason Blume’s “Writing Hit Lyrics” CD and I have been learning so much.  I am still on exercise 1 because I am trying to apply it to my other songs. If you are a songwriter I suggest you get his CD’s!

I know the more I write, painting with words will just become something that I do, but right now I am finding flaws in my songs, all over the place.  It is a little frustrating but I’ll get over it.  The only way to get better at something is by doing it.

Have you ever had something that you thought you were decent at only to have your foundation shaken so you had to rebuild your whole entire craft using a new tool?  How did you work through that?  I would love to hear your stories!

Thats all for now! I have to go figure out where my song is going.

Have a great Easter week,

Hailey Zeph. 3:17 xoxo

Hello World!

Hey guys,
Hope your week is going well! I have been doing some pretty cool stuff lately. I just submitted two of my original songs to a songwriting competition, which is so exciting for me. I have also been figuring out my England trip details. I hopefully have a publisher pitch on Tuesday afternoon so please be praying that goes well. I am sorry I didn’t get a video uploaded on Sunday but I have been really sick with a sinus infection/stomach thing that won’t go away. I should be able to upload one this Sunday.

Thanks for the prayers,
Hailey Zeph. 3:17 xoxo

The Bible

Really enjoyed “The Bible” last night. I know that everything was not in depth but they were at least accurate with what they portrayed! I love the imagery in some of the scenes. I think it will be a great ministering opportunity for people who are not in the church! I am very excited to see a secular TV station hosting it as well.
Here is my rating on a scale from 1-5:
Acting: 5
Captivation: 5
Biblically Accurate: 3 For the most part it was but it skipped some things, but I know its just to point to Jesus.
Commercials: 1- really alcohol commercials? Really?

Over all I give it a 3.5 :)
